RECORD > AGAIN! is a collaborative project with the Centre for Art and Media Technology in Karlsruhe ZKM. It presents restored video works from the last 40 years that are exemplary reflections of the diversity of the German video scene, especially the medium’s early days. What is being shown are the artistic experiments, the pleasure involved in discovering a new means of artistic expression and the satisfaction derived from communicating and interacting. Both in the artists’ actions and the social atmosphere of the first decades there is a tangible euphoria which is based on a belief in the opportunities offered by this technology as a new medium for exchanging ideas between artists and civil society as a whole. Documenting immediate surroundings, expanding the perception of the body and the involving other people in the actual artistic process represent this potential for extending the artistic field of action. Advantage was also taken of the possibilities of mediating art by means of the new medium, video, and television too.

Die Ausstellung des ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe setzt das Projekt zur technischen und wissenschaftlichen Aufbereitung von Videokunst fort, das 2006 initiiert wurde. Über 60 Videoarbeiten aus der Frühzeit der Videokunst wurden restauriert, rekonstruiert und digitalisiert und werden nun im Rahmen einer umfangreichen Ausstellung auf Originalgeräten der Entstehungszeit präsentiert. Aus der Videosammlung des Ludwig Forums wurden 21 Arbeiten in das Projekt aufgenommen, von denen einige in der Ausstellung zu sehen sind.
Die Ausstellung reist im Anschluss an das Kunsthaus Dresden und das Edith-Ruß-Haus für Medienkunst Oldenburg.

RECORD > AGAIN! - 40yearsvideoart.de - Part 2 concentrates on early German video art and shows numerous discoveries,
which, for the most part, have no longer been available for viewing for decades. Included are major reconstructions, such as
the installation »Schafe« by Wolf Kahlen from 1975, shown on six black and white televisions; a rare work by Ulrike Rosenbach
with her partner at the time, Klaus vom Bruch, the boxing match from 1972 that Joseph Beuys participated in at the documenta 5,
and the first video synthesizer collages by Walter Schröder-Limmer. Many of these videos had to first undergo elaborate restoration
in the ZKM laboratory for antiquated video systems in order that they could be played at all. Another special feature is that the
material will be presented on contemporary screens.
After premiering in Karlsruhe, the exhibition will be shown at the Ludwig Forum Aachen, Kunsthaus Dresden, and at the
Edith Ruß Site for Media Art in Oldenburg. A detailed catalogue with DVD will be published for the exhibition.

The project is supported by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes.

Visionarios – Audiovisual en Latinoamérica presenta una selección de producción de cine y video experimental que abarca los países de América Central, además de México, Caribe, América Andina, Brasil y Cono Sur, en una recopilación de trabajos que destacan en el contexto artístico de los primeros años del siglo XXI y presenta una antología histórica de sus realizadores pioneros. Este proyecto, que reúne obras con propuestas estéticas diferentes, es el resultado del proceso de investigación y curaduría realizada por Arlindo Machado (antología histórica), Elias Levin (México, América Central y Caribe), Jorge La Ferla (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay y Paraguay), Marta Vélez (Cuba, Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia y Venezuela) y Roberto Moreira S. Cruz (Brasil). Contó con la colaboración de Adriana Barrios, María Belén Moncayo, Gloria María Arteaga, Mariela Cantú y Luisa María Marisy Martínez.

La cultura audiovisual de los pueblos que viven en América Latina es diversa y las fronteras se están extendiendo por diferencias históricas y geográficas. Ante estos desafíos, Visionarios – Audiovisual en Latinoamérica delineó principios conceptuales y estableció propuestas temáticas para la selección de las 73 obras que componen esta muestra, organizada en nueve programas. El público podrá ver un variado conjunto de producciones que tratan de temas sociopolíticos propios de muchos países latinos, así como otros que buscan la sensorialidad sonora y visual de la imagen y la experiencia estética con la imagen digital, además de trabajos cuyos temas contemporáneos representan con distinción los aspectos culturales más intrínsecos de la latinidad.

Los juegos de la creación en propuestas formales radicales, que nos remiten a una visión del mundo a través de temáticas políticas y diarios íntimos. Una trama de visiones en la que lo personal se asocia a diversas lecturas del entorno, externo e interno, como autorreferencia de los autores y de los medios tecnológicos audiovisuales que utilizan.

Visionarios – Audiovisual en Latinoamérica presenta una selección de cine y vídeo experimental latinoamericano, que abarca desde México hasta los países del Cono Sur, dividida entre las producciones recientes de los últimos años, así como una antología histórica de sus primeros creadores. Organizada por el Instituto Itaú Cultural, a través de 73 obras que componen la muestra estructurada en nueve programas, el público podrá ver un conjunto de producciones que abordan temas sociopolíticos propios de la región y otras que investigan la dimensión sonora y visual de la imagen, alejada de planteamientos narrativos convencionales. Además de incluir títulos que tratan argumentos contemporáneos muy distintos a los que cultural y tradicionalmente se consideran intrínsecamente latinos. En definitiva, una muestra vitalista y
ecléctica, a la vez que profunda y comprometida, sobre la creación audiovisual latinoamericana pasada y reciente.
